Reality & Myths about Cosmetic Surgery & Plastic Surgery

Latest Dental News: Ahmedabad based company launches new dental drug

Many men and women considering cosmetic surgery often have the misconception that there will be absolutely no scarring after their cosmetic surgery. While cosmetic surgeons work as hard as possible to place incisions in unnoticeable locations, when an incision is made or when skin is removed, it is inevitable that a scar will develop. By choosing an experienced, specially trained cosmetic surgeon, patients can make sure that incisions are made as small as possible and concealed by the natural curves of their bodies.

Is cosmetic surgery dangerous?
Cosmetic surgery is a medical procedure and as with all surgeries, there are risks associated for every patient. Recovery times vary, but dangerous is not an accurate word to describe some of the fascinating procedures cosmetic surgeons perform on men and women of all ages every day. Patients should choose a board certified surgeon with adequate experience and training in the type of cosmetic surgery you are considering.

Shopping for the lowest price on a procedure is the best way to find a cosmetic surgeon.

Cosmetic surgery yields permanent physical results and is serious business. Searching for the lowest price cosmetic surgeon in your area is not the best way to choose a cosmetic surgeon. Patients considering cosmetic surgery should find a cosmetic surgeon who is honest with them about the cost, risk, and results of their procedure. Cost must be considered, but it is more important to have a safe procedure performed by a gifted surgery that produces magnificent results.

All cosmetic surgeons are the same.
While cosmetic surgeons may share similar backgrounds, their skill level, experience, and training varies widely. During your initial consultation you should ask your potential cosmetic surgeon about his background and why he’s the best choice for your particular aesthetic goals.

Cosmetic surgeons only perform breast surgery.

While some cosmetic surgeons concentrate on just one or two specific procedures, many cosmetic surgeons provide patients with a wide array of cosmetic surgery options such as:

• Abdominoplasty
• BOTOX
• Arm reduction
• Liposuction
• Facelift
• Rhinoplasty

Recovery from cosmetic surgery is very painful!

Most cosmetic surgery patients find that the recovery period from cosmetic surgery is not nearly as painful as they thought. People who are considering cosmetic surgery, but are wary of the pain associated with the recovery, should schedule an initial consultation with a cosmetic surgeon in their area. During an initial consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will inform you of exactly what you can expect before, during and after cosmetic surgery.

Poularity & Facts About Cosmetic Surgery & Plastic Surgery

Latest Dental News: What is the GDC and why is it important?

Almost any area of the body can be improved or corrected by a plastic surgeon. This diversity in the application of plastic surgery for plastic purposes is seen when you look at the top five procedures performed in 2006. From breast augmentations to tummy tucks, the data show that people are able to fulfill a variety of their goals for their physical appearances through a relationship with a plastic surgeon.

With data collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which does annual surveys among plastic and plastic surgeons in the United States, we can take a look at the five most popular forms of plastic surgery.

1. Breast Augmentation
Surgical enhancement of the size and shape of women's breasts has been steadily increasing in popularity over the years. And with the recent re-approval by the Federal Food and Drug Administration of new silicone breast implants, breast augmentation is expected to continue being pursued by many women.

In 2006, breast augmentation was found to be the number one procedure performed by plastic surgeons. The ASPS reported that 329,000 breast augmentations were done that year. Interestingly, Los Angeles breast reduction is also on the rise.

To briefly describe breast augmentation surgery, it entails a plastic surgeon making incisions under the arm, under the breasts, or under the nipples, depending on the surgical approach selected. Then implants, either saline or silicone, are inserted either beneath the breast tissues or all the way beneath the chest muscles. General anesthesia is normally required, but the surgery is almost always an outpatient procedure.

2. Rhinoplasty
The second most commonly performed surgery is rhinoplasty, which is the reshaping of the nose. Both men and women pursue rhinoplasty. Typical reasons that people cite for changing their noses are lack of satisfaction with the current nose, correction of breathing problems, or reconstruction from injury or birth defect.

During a rhinoplasty procedure, the plastic surgeon makes incisions – sometimes inside the nostrils to reduce scarring – and lifts the nose skin off its underlying structure of bone and cartilage. To reshape the nose, the cartilage that is exposed will be trimmed and sculpted. Then the skin will be returned and refitted to the new shape. A plastic surgeon usually takes one or two hours to complete a rhinoplasty, but more complicated surgeries can take longer. Once again, this is usually an outpatient surgery. General anesthesia is used, or, in some cases, local anesthetic with sedation is sufficient.

3. Liposuction
Liposuction is a versatile technique employed by plastic surgeons that is helpful in reshaping many areas of the body. Liposuction can be used to smooth away extra bulges during a tummy tuck. It can be used in areas of the face and neck, or just about any other area of troubling bulges on the body.

During liposuction, a plastic surgeon injects fluid into the fat cells of the area to be treated. An anesthetic to limit pain and a vessel constricting drug to reduce bleeding are included in the injection. Then, very small incisions are made on the skin and tiny tubes are inserted to suction out the fat.

4. Eyelid Surgery
Also known as blepharoplasty, surgery to the eyelids is used to alleviate drooping or puffy upper and lower eyelids. The plastic benefit achieved is a more youthful appearance. A plastic surgeon will make tiny incisions within the natural folds of the skin to hide scars and lift and rejuvenate the eyelids. This is an outpatient procedure done with local anesthetic and sedation.

5. Tummy Tuck
This plastic procedure with the cute name can produce impressive results. For people who have stretched abdominal skin from multiple pregnancies or a large amount of weight loss, the tummy tuck can smooth the torso. Technically called abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck starts with an incision across the lower abdomen within the bikini or underwear line so the scar will usually be covered. Then the plastic surgeon tightens the abdominal muscles into a smoother and firmer contour. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is stitched back into place.

A tummy tuck is a major cosmetic surgery that often calls for general anesthesia. With this procedure, a visible scar along your lower abdomen will be present, unlike other procedures that are able to minimize or hide scars.

Although you have many options for enhancing your appearance with plastic surgery, only a plastic surgeon can properly assess what can be achieved with your body. If you are considering a plastic procedure, think through your motivations carefully and also take recovery time into account.

Facts & Difference Between Colored Dental Fillings & Silver Fillings

Latest Dental News: Dental amalgam is safe, but needs warning on product label

A silver glint in your smile reveals a great deal about your dental history. When you have a cavity, cosmetic dentists use fillings to support and protect the tooth from further decay. For many years, silver amalgam fillings have been the filling of choice. Recently, however, more and more patients have been choosing composite resin or tooth-colored fillings because of their attractiveness and durability.

Silver vs. Tooth-Colored

Silver amalgam contains approximately 35% silver, traces of tin and zinc, and approximately 50% mercury. Mercury is thought to be toxic to humans, and, in the past, has caused some concern in the dental field. This concern has sparked a controversy over the safety of the metal fillings used in the last two decades.

The American Dental Association (ADA) has deemed the much-relied-upon alloy as harmless; however, the ADA warns that those with allergies or a weakened immune system should avoid it.

However, many dentists remain unconvinced of mercury’s safety, arguing that mercury vapor gradually escapes from the filling endangering the patient.

According to dentists, mercury poisoning has been linked to a number of other health problems, including:

· Reduced excretion of porphyrins, which promote oxygen transport in the blood
· A buildup of mercury in various glands in the body
· Sleep disturbances
· Gastrointestinal problems
· Memory problems
· A possible contributory factor to Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer's Disease

Silver amalgam fillings have also been known to expand over time, which can sometimes cause teeth to crack causing discomfort and a need for further dental work.

Resin (tooth-colored) fillings involve none of these health risks. They do not expand or damage the tooth. Instead, they are bonded to the tooth, providing strength and support. The resin is composed of a material similar to that used in dental bonding, another procedure that supports tooth structure.

Resin fillings also require less removal of the original tooth to make room for the filling and are considered a less radical alteration to the natural tooth.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Rather than making teeth look healthy and pristine, silver fillings can checker them with a patchwork of repairs. Often, a grayish color can leak from the filling to the surrounding tooth, worsening the appearance. This is especially noticeable if the cavity affects one of the front teeth. “Resin fillings are becoming the norm,” says Dr. Kevin B. Sands, a Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, “They are better for you and much better-looking.”

With composite resin fillings, people will not even know that you have fillings. The resin mimics the color and translucency of your teeth. The resulting smile is as white and brilliant as it is strong.

Resin fillings cost a bit more, about $150 to $200 per filling, but often the extra expense is covered by insurance. When it comes to dental health, the least expensive option can become more expensive in the long run. Resin fillings last up to ten years before needing replacement.

If you currently have silver amalgam fillings, replacing them with resin composite fillings is a relatively simple procedure.

Get Rid of Jaw Problems & Headaches Through Latest & Advanced Dental Treatments

Latest Dental News: Jaw Problems & Headaches

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is a condition in which your bite becomes misaligned causing serious and often very painful problems of the head and face area. Many times you will see the acronyms TMJ and TMD used interchangeably, but you should note that TMJ stands for the temporomandibular joint itself, while TMD stands for the painful disorder that results from a problem with the TMJ.

There are many symptoms associated with this very common and painful disorder:

• Limited jaw movement
• Clicking and popping noises of the jaw
• Locking of the jaw
• Stiff or tight jaw muscles
• Facial pain
• Ringing in the ears
• Pressure in the ears
• Neck, shoulder and back pain
• Numbness and tingling in the fingers
• Difficulty swallowing
• Insomnia

People who suffer with TMD often present this set of symptoms to their general doctor, however and accurate diagnosis of TMD is often missed because physicians often do not have the specialized training this difficult diagnosis requires. A neuromuscular dentist, on the other hand, does have the specialized training to not only diagnose this difficult disorder, but also to treat it. Neuromuscular dentistry is the dental specialty that treats the cause of the painful headaches that accompany a misaligned jaw. A good neuromuscular dentist will work to place your jaw in its optimal position, thereby virtually eliminating all of your symptoms.

Migraine Like Headaches

One of the most painful symptoms of TMD is a headache that sufferers compare to a migraine. TMD causes these powerful headaches because the trigeminal nerve is one of the most complex nerve systems in the body. This nerve is responsible for the function of the TMJ and accounts for approximately forty percent of the brain’s processing. The trigeminal nerve got its name because it has three branches, all affecting various parts of the face, head, arms and shoulders. Because of the vastness of this nerve’s processing, TMD sufferers may also have numbness and tingling in the hands and fingers.

The headaches associated with TMD may be dull and constant or sharp and searing. If you have suffered with headaches for years, even decades, your solution may be found at your neuromuscular dentist’s office.

TMD Treatments

Fortunately for TMD sufferers, there are many treatment options available. Your dentist, after a thorough evaluation, will decide on a treatment plan based on your unique symptoms. Treatment options may include any of the following:

• Occlusal splints (also known as mouth guards or mouth pieces). These are typically worn at night, but in more severe cases daytime wear may also be necessary.
• Pain medication and/or anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed
• Moist heat will help to relax your jaws sore muscles by promoting blood flow to the area
• Jaw exercises and/or physical therapy will relax your muscles and increase joint flexibility
• Behavioral changes such as not chewing gum, not biting your nails and avoiding crunchy foods will almost always be recommended.
• In the most extreme cases, surgery may be necessary.

If you live in the Braintree, Massachusetts area and would like to learn more about TMD related headaches, please visit the Aesthetic Dentist.

Latest Dental News: Smile Program brings smile to children of various ages

For over 150 years, metal fillings have been the status quo to repair teeth. The metal in these fillings is mercury, or an amalgam of mercury, copper, and silver. What now seems like common sense – mercury is not something you want to carry around in your mouth – is still a relatively new concept. In something known as the “mercury controversy,” a debate is raging about exactly how bad mercury is for you. The Food and Drug Administration has linked mercury to harming pregnant women, children, and fetuses. On a related note, people are concerned about mercury in the fish they eat, so it makes sense they’d feel concern about the metal fillings or restorations in their mouth. Several countries, including Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden, have banned or advised against the use of metal fillings.

Health Complaints

Health problems associated with metal fillings are reported every year. The problems these people associate with the mercury in their fillings include:

• Autoimmune disorders
• Birth defects
• Chronic illnesses
• Degenerative brain and nervous system problems
• Mental disorders
• Lesions in the mouth

Replacing Metal Fillings

Due to the advent of porcelain and composite fillings, replacing metal-based fillings leaves you with options. Even if you are not feeling ill, if you want to replace your fillings with metal-free fillings, you can do so with a dentist who has a metal-free practice, like Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area dentist Dr. Terry Bass. Replacing your mercury fillings may be done for several reasons, such as:

• Metal fillings obviously do not look like your other teeth, which makes them standout negatively when you smile
• Metal expands and contracts with temperature changes, which cracks and damages the enamel on your teeth
• Any illness you have or feel you have may be because of the presence of mercury in your mouth

Metal restorations are inferior for these reasons. There is no substitute for your natural teeth, but when you need fillings, dental crowns, or veneers, you shouldn’t have to worry about your overall general health, too. By giving dental patients the option for metal-free restorations, dentists in metal and mercury free practices are not only creating better smiles. They are creating healthier smiles.

If you want to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile, consider having your metal-based fillings replaced with metal-free porcelain. If you are in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area, please contact Terry Bass, DDS to set up an initial consultation.

Cosmetic Surgery Means of Look Feel the Best

Dental News: Align Technology introduces new features for Invisalign(R) Products

The History of Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery has been around for so long that it actually has no traceable beginning. As far back as ancient Greeks and Romans there are depictions of cosmetic procedures occurring to fix disfigurements that occurred at birth, as punishment for a crime, or war injuries. Of course, there have been constant improvements since the very first nose job, but the fact remains that for as long as there have been people, they want to look and feel their best.

Cosmetic surgery was once thought of vanity procedures reserved for the wealthy and the famous. This is no longer true. With increased pressure from society to reverse aging and to lose weight, cosmetic surgery has been steadily increasing in popularity and accessibility. “Medical Advancements In Cosmetic Surgery” has made it accessible to any one who desires it.

Once upon a time cosmetic procedures were considered appropriate for aging women. Today, it is no longer a gender specific specialty. Men are having more nose jobs and even tummy tucks performed than it was ever once thought possible. Age is no longer a critical factor. People in their teens, although most surgeons don’t recommend it, are having cosmetic procedures done. Those in their thirties and forties are quickly replacing the market and having anti aging procedures done as early as twenty seven.

Regardless of personal opinions about the popularity of cosmetic procedures and the “Medical Advancements In Cosmetic Surgery”, the increased desire to fix ourselves has led to a revolution within the industry. No longer are simple procedures cost prohibitive as price reduction has made it possible for many more people to elect to have these procedures performed.

“The medical advancements in cosmetic surgery” that have taken hold within the cosmetic industry have decreased the associated risks as well as decreased the drastic healing time that was once necessary for these procedures. It is now possible for a person to have a cosmetic procedure done on a Friday and return to work the following Monday, depending of course on the procedure.

There has been a race among plastic surgeons to make their services more accessible by making them more attainable. Medical advancements have led to less intrusive procedures and of course, more quick and easy procedures.

The Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures

“Medical Advancements In Cosmetic Surgery” have made cosmetic surgery very popular some procedures more then other. No one can really answer why certain procedures in the cosmetic industry have become so popular other than their ease of recovery and their basic simplicity. Most of the popular cosmetic surgery procedures are simple and easy fixes that aren’t nearly as dramatic as some of the more global enhancement operations.

The nose job, of course is ranked the most popular cosmetic procedure out there. A nose job is mostly a low to moderate intrusive procedure that dramatically alters the appearance of the face. A good rhinoplasty can significantly improve an individual’s facial appearance.

Liposuction is a very close second in the cosmetic procedure popularity contest. Americans in particular are quite overweight. In fact between five and fifteen percent of the American population is dramatically obese while seventy percent is a least somewhat overweight. These are staggering numbers. Liposuction has become popular because the results are typically top notch.

A simple eyebrow lift can truly enhance a face and take years off tired eyes. It is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures because it is truly a simple procedure with dramatic results. Both men and women find eyebrow lifts to be worth the money for their combination of results and discretion.

Breast enlargements are the fourth most popular cosmetic procedure despite the scare of the early nineties when breast implants began to leak silicone into their clients’ bodies. With the medical advancements in cosmetic surgery, the following year the plastic surgery community was able to produce safer breast implants and once again breast enhancement surgery was on the rise. Breast enhancement surgery has been a hot topic of social debate since the seventies when they first began their popularity ascent. Breast enhancement received a lot of attention for their medical advancements.

The face lift comes in at number five in the popularity contest regarding cosmetic procedures. While most clients are quite happy with the results, it is a more intrusive procedure and requires a longer recovery period than most of the more popular plastic surgery procedures.

Psychological Benefits of Plastic Surgery

Since its inception and “Medical Advancements In Cosmetic Surgery”, plastic surgery has allowed people to feel better about their outward appearance. Though it originated as a medical process of repairing disfigurements, the medical advancements of plastic surgery have encouraged the world to embrace a more beautiful side to themselves.

Most patients who have undergone cosmetic procedures report having a higher self esteem and a better quality of life. It is difficult to say whether their improvements in the quality of life come from a prettier face or from their improved self esteem, but ninety seven percent of all plastic surgery patients report appreciating the difference and would do it again if faced with the same options.

There are of course risks that are involved with any cosmetic procedure. These risks include complications from anesthesia, incomplete improvement and even disfigurement. Most doctors will tell you that the “medical advancements in cosmetic surgery” have drastically reduced the chances of the associated risks.

Two Brand New Procedures

Two of the newest “medical advancements in cosmetic surgery” are captique and contour threads. Both of these new procedures were designed to minimize both the typical risks involved with cosmetic surgery and the invasive procedures available. The medical advancements in cosmetic surgery push through quickly in an effort to provide faster, less invasive options to the clientele.

Captique is a new procedure that has jest been introduced to compete with the face lift and Botox. It is a chemical filler that is injected into the skin which in turn drastically reduces wrinkle appearance. It is completely synthetic and not derived from any animal products. The entire captique procedure is a quick outpatient visit that can be completed in about fifteen to twenty minutes, and the patient is then free to drive home. It does not act as a paralytic as Botox does, so the patient can reduce wrinkles while still maintaining facial expressions. Captique is currently only available in a few select clinics.

Contour threads is a brand new procedure that resembles a facelift, but it allows for the patient to retain their more natural and relaxed appearance rather than end up with tight skin pulled back over the head. Contour threads have actually been used in various other medical procedures, but have only recently become available in the cosmetic industry.

Contour threads are made from a clear, soft polypropylene. This eliminates the dark stitch areas that traditional stitches are known to leave behind. In the correct hands, contour threads can produce a very soft face devoid of wrinkles and serious signs of aging.

These two “medical advancements in cosmetic surgery” have created quite the excited buzz in the cosmetic industry. With leaps forward such as these it may actually be possible one day to get anti aging procedures done in an afternoon and return to work the next day as though nothing extraordinary happened.

Continual Progress

The cosmetic industry will continue to have remarkable advancements in its field and continue to produce procedures that can create wonderful outcomes with minimal interference in daily life. The less invasive these procedures become, the more popular they will become as well.

The cosmetic industry is attempting to produce natural results that only those closest to the patient will ultimately be able to discern plastic surgery procedures. The surgeons and researchers have of course not forgotten the original intent of the cosmetic industry. They are continually prototyping advancements in correcting birth defect and accidental disfigurements as well.

It is an exciting age to live in. We are rapidly approaching another outstanding revolutionary period in the cosmetic industry. It is important to keep yourself informed is you are even contemplating having any cosmetic procedure done. Sometimes waiting as little as two or three months prior to committing to a cosmetic surgical procedure can allow enough time for a new product to finish being tested and hit the market. With each “medical advancement in the cosmetic surgery” industry, each procedure will become less invasive and easier to recover from.

Keep yourself informed of upcoming advancements and procedures that may very well benefit you. Visit lifeplasticsurgery to keep on top of the latest news and happenings in the cosmetic industry. Here you can learn about nearly every available procedure and even a few that are almost available. An informed client is a client that is truly ready to face cosmetic surgery and come through with reasonable but good expectations. The miracle of science will never stop creating these advancements and people will never stop wanting to utilize them. Don’t be the last to know. Stop by the lifeplasticsurgery regularly and find out what’s coming your way.

Feel Much Better with Facial Surgery

Dental News: Jury Fines South Carolina Dentist

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids along with removing or repositioning excess fat. Most patients are interested in correcting puffiness of the eyelids and excess skin of both the upper and the lower eyelids.

Oftentimes patients complain that they appear more tired than they feel. Sometimes fat is repositioned from the lower eyelid into the deep tear troughs or the deep depressions that exist at the bottom of the lower eyelids. The incisions are easily hidden below the eyelashes of the lower eyelids and sometimes performed with no incision on the lower eyelid whatsoever, called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

The upper eyelid incision is hidden very well back within the deep crease that is seen when the eye is shut, but retracts back when the eyelid is open. Many times eyelid surgery is performed at the same time as a face lift or a brow lift.

Facelift is a surgical procedure that eases signs of aging by removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, and re draping the skin over the face and neck. Most face lift patients are interested in improving the deep lines present on their cheeks, the excess skin along the jaw line known as jowls, and the excess skin and sagging of their neck. Often prospective facelift patients complain they look much more tired than they feel and are looking for a natural youthful appearance.

Most patients do not want to look overdone or pulled. The key to looking natural after surgery is to tighten the underlying muscles of the face without much tension on the skin. The best facelifts do not distort the hairline behind the ears or sideburn in front of the ear. The earlobes should also be left in place without being pulled forward. The surgical incisions should be difficult to detect. The surgery will evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone and discuss your goals for the surgery. The surgeon will check for medical problem such as high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive sears.

You will be asked to stop smoking for few weeks before and after the surgery as it inhibits blood flow to skin and healing process. You will be asked to stop talking aspirins it effects clotting. It your hair is to short, you can let it grow long before surgery, so that it is long enough to hide the sears while they heal.

A face lift is usually done on an out patient basis, but some surgeons may hospitalize the patient for a day when using general anesthesia. Most face lifts are performed under local anesthesia combined with a sedative to make you drowsy. You will be awake but relaxed and insensitive to pain.

Surgery:

A face lift surgery usually takes several hours. Every surgeon performs the procedure in his or her own way. Some complete one side of the face at a time and other move back and forth between the sides. The incisions are started above the hair line at the temples, extend in the natural line in front of the ear, and continue behind the ear lobe to the lower scalp. A small incision is made under the chin, if the neck needs work.

The surgeon separates the skin from the fat and muscle below. Fat is either trimmed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to improve contour. Then the underlying muscle and membrane is tightened the skin is pulled back and excess skin is removed.

Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions. Metal clips may be used on the scalp. After the surgery a drain tube is placed under the skin behind the ear to drain any blood that might collect there. The head may be loosely wrapped in bandages to minimize bruising ans swelling.

Post operative procedure:

Is there is any discomfort it can be minimized with pain medication. Numbness of the skin is quite normal and will disappear in a month. To keep the swelling down head should be kept elevated and still for a couple of days. Drain tube and bandages will be removed after one to five days.

Your face may appear bruised and puffy but in a few weeks you will look normal. Stitches will be removed after five days. Scalp will take longer to heal. Patients are back to work at about ten days after surgery. But the third week you will look and feel much better.

Cosmetic Surgery: Improve Your Appearance

Latest Dental News: First fully NHS-commissioned dental clinic officially opens in London

As you explore your options for cosmetic surgery, you will likely have questions and concerns similar to other cosmetic surgery candidates. Before going forward with a cosmetic surgery procedure, you will have many issues to consider. Developing your understanding of cosmetic surgery is essential to making a well-informed decision about your body.

Five Common Questions about Cosmetic Surgery

  1. What makes someone a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?

The answer to this question has several elements. Most importantly, you need to be in reasonably good health without any medical conditions that preclude you from undergoing an elective surgery. Next, you need to have realistic expectations about how cosmetic surgery will improve your appearance. You need to accept that your cosmetic surgery will change a feature of your body – not change your body into someone else's body. You need to approach cosmetic surgery with the goal of making yourself happier with your body and not expect other people to see or treat you differently. You also can find plastic surgery information on the various plastic surgery professional society web sites.

  1. How painful is cosmetic surgery?

Pain is limited or entirely avoided during a cosmetic surgery procedure with local or general anesthesia. During your recovery, however, you would typically experience a range of feelings from mild discomfort to some pain, which would be managed with pain medication. The extent of the cosmetic surgery will determine the potential for pain and the time it will take you to recover. A tummy tuck, for example, is a cosmetic surgery that affects a larger portion of the body than a brow lift. You should also note that pain is typically controlled immediately after surgery with long lasting anesthetics at the surgery site. This process will ease you into recovery. Because of long-lasting local anesthetic commonly used during the procedure and pain medicines taken after the surgery, most people complain of very little pain.

  1. What age should people be to get cosmetic surgery?

Although some procedures are only applicable to individuals approaching or experiencing middle age, such as a facelift, this does not mean that younger people never get cosmetic surgery. Younger people often get rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, or other procedures to change a body feature as opposed to alleviating the effects of aging. As long as you are over age 18, you can freely pursue cosmetic surgery, but it would be important for you to seriously consider your motivations and not change something about your body lightly.

  1. What anesthesia is used during cosmetic surgery?

The type of cosmetic surgery you have generally determines the type of anesthesia used, but you can discuss your preferences with your cosmetic surgeon. For less-invasive procedures, a local anesthetic that blocks nerve impulses at the site of the surgery combined with a sedative to calm you would be used. General anesthesia, in which you are made completely unconscious and oblivious to pain, is necessary for more extensive surgeries.

  1. Does insurance cover cosmetic surgery?

Usually medical insurance policies do not cover cosmetic surgery. It is an almost universal exemption from insurance coverage. However, select policies may pay for plastic surgery costs if the surgery corrects a birth defect that interferes with healthy functioning or to repair the damage left by an injury. For example, there are nasal breathing difficulties that can be corrected with nose surgery, and your insurance policy may cover it. Examining your policy and checking with your insurance company are advised because you can never assume that insurance will cover a cosmetic procedure.

During a consultation for cosmetic surgery, it is important that you ask whatever questions you like and have all your concerns addressed. You will be investing time and expense into the process, and you need to make sure that you are comfortable with what will be happening.

Cosmetic Surgery: Achieve Natural Look

Cosmetic surgery consists not just of enhancing someones beauty, but also to help those who have been badly damaged in an accident or who have physical birth defects. Many believe that women are the main gender that go for cosmetic surgery. Yet studies have shown that 11% of men are also getting cosmetic surgery - in fact since 1992, the percentage of men getting cosmetic surgery has gone up by 50%. Middle aged men see plastic surgery as an investment in their career prospects. It is important to know that it is neither sex nor age which makes some type of aesthetic surgery procedure feasible, but what is important is a good general health condition.

The stress of being beautiful is taking a strain on many people. People are spending about 10% of their gross income on cosmetic surgeries. Regarding age, there are some procedures such as facelift which are more frequently done on people over 40; however there are people over 55 who still may not need it. On the other hand, there are also patients under 40 who may benefit from this surgery.

Talk to a cosmetic surgeon to see whether you really need extensive changes in your appearance. Learn if a face lift is right for you. Talk it over with partners, friends, spiritual counsellors or life coaches if need be.

Cosmetic surgery covers a wide range of procedures, including obesity and weight loss surgery, breast augmentation, liposuction & face surgery. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift or an eyelid surgery. Alternatives to surgery exist. Laser cosmetic surgery may be performed around the eyes or the mouth. More consumers are considering injectables to prolong or avoid facelifts, forehead lifts and eyelid surgeries.

Eyelid surgery

Sagging upper eyelids or bags under the eyes can be one of the clearest signs of facial ageing. Patients interested in eyelid or eye brow surgery may have noticed drooping or sagging of the skin around the eyes. Eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, corrects not only the eyelids but also eyebags. Often, the procedure is done with another cosmetic operation, such as a facelift. To remove your eyebags whilst lifting your face is only a matter of more time for the surgeon. The goal of eyelid surgery is to remove excess skin gravity and sun exposure damage. Patients usually request for surgery to remove eyebags and to firm the lower eyelid area. In lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lashline and smile creases of the lower lid. This is a very effective way of performing the surgery without leaving any obvious scarring.

Facial surgery

The face as a whole must be considered if the optimum outcome of cosmetic surgery is to be achieved. A facelift can help rejuvenate the lower face, giving it a fresher, healthier appearance. The face lift works well for the jaw line and the neck. By improving facial muscle tone, you can literally lift years off your face. Muscles, fat and deep tissues of the face are all lifted and repositioned so skin is draped over more youthful contours. Most surgeons agree that the best time for the first facial cosmetic surgery is whenever it is needed. Microdermabrassion and non surgical face lifts are alternatives to surgery, in conjunction with a natural facial with elements such as green tea that promote skin wellness. It is also recommended to use facial and body massage therapy after treatments to relax you and speed your recovery. Face aerobics are terrific and can save money in cosmetic surgery.

Personal testimony of facial surgery

The following is a true personal testimony written by a good friend of mine, Bethany Lee, specifically for this article and with her full permission. She is keen to share her experiences with others who may read it.

I had cosmetic surgery some years ago – my first operation was for my eyes. I had very many creases around them and was unhappy with my appearance. I contacted an agent for cosmetic surgery, thinking about whole face surgery. After a discussion with her, she convinced me to start by having correction around my eyes. The operation I had was performed under local anaesthetic although this method isn’t entirely suitable for many people as it is quite painful. It is possible to have it done under general anaesthesia, or ‘twilight anaesthesia’. Some tie it in with other surgery such as a facelift procedure. Still, I opted for the local anaesthetic - I found it comforting to be able to talk to the surgeon and his nurse and know what was going on, but it is not for the faint hearted. The operation itself took about one and a half hours and I was able to have a cup of tea, don dark glasses and go home. I was given pain killers, antibiotics and eye ointment.

The painkillers were hardly needed. Although very bruised and swollen when I arrived home, my husband could see a remarkable difference in that the operation had completely removed my eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes. After the bruising and swelling finally went down (less than a week) the difference was amazing. I could see better and I looked so much younger. I was absolutely delighted. It set me off.

I was worried about my developing jowels. There was no doubt about it – the cosmetic surgery loomed. I contacted the same agent I had seen before, and she showed me how my face would look after surgery. This time I opted for a full face lift. The operation took 4 hours and this was done under general anaesthetic. I must admit I suffered a lot of bruising - more than most and it took about a week to settle down but after fortnight I was transformed. I found chewing sugar free dental gum useful, it helped me exercise my jaw and kept things moving. I looked better, felt better and started to look after myself more. It gave me the incentive to start exercising again. People were complimenting me on how well I looked. The incision lines were in well hidden places in my hair line and behind my ears, so there was no way anyone could actually tell that I had undergone surgery.

I was told the eye surgery would last 7 years but it is 15 years now and they still look good. Just a very slight wrinkling on the left side, which is easily correct with makeup. I have regularly used creams to keep my skin in the best possible condition. I know that people say that a cheap cream is as good as an expensive one but I refute that totally. I have bought most of the creams on the market and find that Syence is by far the most effective. This is one of the few creams that has scientifically documented proof that it thickens the skin – useful in the more mature lady! I find it invaluable, as it has kept my face very soft and near on wrinkle free.

Finally, I would say find a good cosmetic surgeon. Ask around, do not go for the cheapest or the most expensive - go for reputation. See photographs of his work if possible and ask questions. It’s your money and your face – you have the right to demand the best. Naturally things can go wrong but rarely do and they can be put right. I find yoga is a great help as it keeps mind and body in tune. A good balanced diet of fresh organic fruit, vegetables and olive oil add to a healthy skin, which will always help set you on a good road to quick recovery.

You will experience a little pain but speak up and it can soon be eased. At the end of the day it will be worth it!
